UPDATED FALL, 2007
ELEMENTARY
MORE NEW PROGRAMS COMING TO OUR STUDENTS!
CAREER CONNECTION LIBRARY
This
project was developed by the West Shore Career Education Team for the second
grade.
The goals for this program include: 1.)
To engage children and parents (or other adult) in the reading process.
2.) To begin discussion about various career paths.
3.) To encourage the reduction of bias by instilling the idea that ALL Work
Has Worth.
4.) To improve children's reading skills.
How it works... Teachers
will be given a library of 30 numbered packets. Each packet contains a
career related
book and a corresponding folder. In the folder are journal pages,
an activity sheet, and a parent
instruction letter. The students then
takes home the packet, reads the book and completes the
activity sheet and
journal. In addition, teachers will be given some ideas for activities
that can
introduce the concepts of Career Choice, Career Clusters, and Reduction
of Bias or
All Jobs Have Worth.
ME AND MY
JOB
This
is a program that emphasizes responsibility through the world of work.
Because the young
student's career choice is far in the future, Me and My Job
develops the concept that being a
student is an important and meaningful job
for the present. It approaches this concept by
carefully examining every
aspect of the student's job and relating it to the world of work. This
program includes the subjects students study, the responsibilities of being a
student, and learning
about the other school personnel with whom the student
comes in contact. This program is
appropriate for students in the primary
elementary grades and special education classes.

What
is the Traveling Library?

A reflection
activity accompanies each book. The books are reading levels 3 through

library can be delivered
to any classroom and may be used in a variety of ways. Teachers
may send a book
home with each student or may leave the library in the classroom
as a supplemental
activity. Teachers may also want to use one or more of the books
and activity sheets
for a group lesson plan.
